Conor McGregor has paid tribute to his mum Margaret on her birthday with a sweet Instagram post.

The UFC star’s mother turned 63 on Sunday and he took to social media to mark the occasion.

He shared a series of photos of the pair together, including two snaps of Margaret kissing his forehead after he won the interim UFC featherweight title against Chad Mendes at UFC 189 in 2015.

In another photo, taken back in October when the family flew over to Rome for McGregor’s son Rian’s christening, the 33-year-old can be seen posing with his mum on a sofa wearing a black Dolce and Gabbana jumper worth €995.

Captioning Margaret’s birthday post, McGregor wrote: “Happy birthday to my mother Margaret! Love you Ma”

Conor’s sister Erin commented on the post and joked that she was their mum’s favourite child: “go on magzer. who’s her favourite doh”

The MMA athlete has previously spoken about how much he admires his mother and said that it's because of how she overcame personal struggles.

In an interview with Parimatch, he said: “I have been very proud of my mother recently and she was actually going through some things and she came through it with flying colours and now she's like a completely new woman.

“When I see this, my mother is at the top, seeing her correct, she wasn't telling me: 'Conor, do this, do that' because that will make you almost rebel against it.

“What she did was she led by example. I saw my mother in the great light she was in and I was in awe of it.

“I was like, ‘I'm gonna do that. I want to get to that stage. I want to be in this position.’

"And that motivated me to go and correct myself,” he added.
