Today FM presenter Pamela Joyce was left in tears on Tuesday after ‘nine former listeners’ hand delivered a cruel letter to her.

"They wouldn’t even spend the price of a postage stamp on me - it was hand delivered,” she said, sharing an excerpt of the letter she received in which she was told how “horrible, cold and smug” she is.

The excerpt read: “The state of you on Ireland AM last week, slouched on the sofa.”

“You could have at least dressed appropriately. Maybe spend less time too gaming and sitting in front of screens and stop stuffing yourself.”

“No surprise you are single,” it continued.

“Any man in his right mind would run a mile from you… and keep running.”

“Goodbye, Nine Former Listeners,” it was signed.

Sharing a video of herself in tears, Pamela said: “If you don’t like the show, if you don’t like how I do my job, that is fine, you don’t have to listen.”

“You don’t have to take a piece of paper and write down how much you hate me and send it to me. But who are you to comment on how I look? It’s none of your business. How I look, how I live my life, what I do…”

“I just can’t believe there are people that mean in the world,” she continued.

“I would like to believe that 95% of people in the world are nice people and they wouldn’t do something like that, but if there’s something that you don’t like about someone, you don’t have to tell them. You don’t gain anything by telling them.”

“Just practice niceness, practice kindness, and to the person who wrote that letter, you’ve really nice handwriting. So that’s your saving grace, that’s your redeeming quality.”

Friends, colleagues and well-wishers were quick to jump to her defence.

"Wow that is so pathetic. For someone (oh sorry, “nine people”) who claim not to like you, they sure pay close enough attention to you," said fellow presenter Claire Beck.

Alison Curtis added: "That’s disgraceful- it says everything about them and nothing about you."

"Putting it out of your head is so much easier said than done, these type of personal attacks are horrific Pam and I’m so sorry a regular working day has become about this for you. Disgusting and scary. Keep being your brilliant, beautiful self," said Doireann Garrihy.

"They obviously haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you and knowing you. You’re a stand out talent with a capital T - rare these days. And it took 9 of them to come up with that load of absolute (sorry kids) Bollocks. One of them (team captain?) has great handwriting though," added Ian Dempsey.

The Galway girl recently landed the 12pm to 2pm slot on the national radio station after Mairead Ronan left to spend more time with her young family.
