Deeply touched 'Stunned' Karen Koster moved to tears after Ireland AM birthday surprise

Among colleagues paying tribute to her were Alan Hughes, Ciara Doherty, Lisa Cannon and Dermot O’Leary

A tearful Karen Koster fell to the floor of the Ireland AM studio in shock at a surprise tribute her colleagues unleashed this morning on her for her 40th birthday.

The overjoyed presenter was moved to tears by a selection of friends, family, colleagues and former teachers who gave messages of congratulations.

And Karen was left both laughing and crying at childhood pictures and early broadcasting footage which were aired, with her reaching for tissue to dry her eyes.

The bubbly presenter had thought she was due to present a segment on Spring fashion when co-host Tommy Bowe interrupted her live feed.

Karen turns 40 on Friday, but will be off then with Simon Delaney and Anna Daly usually hosting that day.

Among colleagues paying tribute to her were Alan Hughes, Ciara Doherty and Lisa Cannon.

Dermot O’Leary also sent a tribute from London, telling her he would be looking forward to a swim at the 40 Foot in Dublin and drinks afterwards in Matt the Thresher pub.

Mum-of-three Karen was then treated to bubbly, flowers and a birthday cake in an outdoor garden setting.

Dubliner Karen, who joined TV3 as a weather presenter on Ireland AM in 2004, admitted she was deeply touched by the tribute, including from her husband John McGuire, and her two sons and daughter.

“I cannot believe that,” she exclaimed

“I am so stunned. I don’t have any words. Some of these people I haven’t seen in 20 years, my English teacher who was a massive influence on me, who had such a bit impact. He was such a guiding light.

“Ciara ands Paul who used to teach me drama. The kids, all my pals. The memories from the show. This is where it all started, my first job.”

She added: “I can’t speak, I’m a blubber mess.”
