Imelda May will be making her acting debut in the sequel to the 2019 UK comedy Fisherman’s Friends.

The Liberties legend took to Instagram to announce the news that she had been cast in the upcoming film.

She wrote: “So the big secret is... I’m making my acting debut in Fisherman’s Friends 2 as Aubrey Flynn.

“I’ll join the original cast to tell a beautiful story on the shores of enchanting Cornwall. It’s a bit of a dream of mine to be honest. I’ve certainly been called a drama queen so...

“Adventure calls and so I follow!!!”

Imelda will be joining new cast members Richard Harrington, Ramon Tikaram, and Joshua Maguire in the film and said that “it’s truly been an absolute honour” to work alongside the cast and crew so far.

The first film told the true story of a group of Cornish fishermen who formed a sea shanty group, The Fisherman's Friends, who signed to Universal Records and achieved unexpected global fame.

According to reports, Fisherman’s Friends 2 will follow how the shanty crew cope with their newfound celebrity status, the release of their second album, and performing on the pyramid stage at Glastonbury.

The Dublin musician will release her sixth studio album, 11 Past the Hour, later this month - her first new music in four years - which features collaborations with Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, Miles Kane, and pal Noel Gallagher.

She will appear on The Late Late Show tonight to perform a track from the album with Niall McNamee in an exclusive performance.

The 46-year-old has also recently announced that she will be going on tour next year with dates in Ireland and the UK lined up.
