RTÉ presenter Maura Derrane has said that she “can't believe” her son is now seven years old.

The Today star took to Instagram to mark her son Cal’s big day with a throwback photo from a family holiday.

She posted a photo of her holding a much younger Cal in her arms while they holidayed on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.

Maura also included a photo of her boy holding a birthday card for his seventh birthday.

She captioned the post: “This photo was taken in Sardinia six years ago.I can’t believe my tiny little Cal is seven years old today. Happy birthday Cally.”

Friends, family, and followers flocked to the comments to wish Cal a happy birthday.

Chef Rachel Allen wrote: “Oh gorgeous Cal, happy 7th birthday. He does the sweetest rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”

Xposé presenter Lorraine Keane added: “He is gorgeous Maur! Happy birthday Cal xxx”

Another user said: “He’s gorgeous. So like you. Happy birthday!”

Maura took a step back from her Today presenting duties late last year, reducing her working working hours so that she can spend more time with her family.

She told the RTÉ Guide that she has much more free time now to enjoy cycling with Cal: “I cycled so much as a child on the island (Aran, the bike was our mode of transport for getting around. I gave it up for a lot of years and now I'm staring to cycle again and it's great.”

She also shared that she hopes to spend more time with her son on her native Inis Mór this summer.

“My mother lives there still and I stay with her. My sister Barbara lives there too and she's got a son who goes to school there so it's great for Cal - he's only two years older than him - and it's just ideal for us.”
