RTÉ’s Baz Ashmawy has revealed that he is now a grandparent after stepdaughter Charlotte gave birth earlier this week.

Charlotte and her partner Brian Malone welcomed their baby girl on Thursday.

The television personality broke the news on Instagram, sharing an illustration by his stepdaughter followed by a photo of his grandchild’s tiny hands.

Baz wrote: “So, our little girl had a little girl Congratulations @charlottekingg and @brianbmalone... So proud of you both. You're going to be great parents. Trust me.

“You've made us all so happy at a time when things are so tough. I could burst. I can't wait to squeeze you all but especially the new little lady in my life.

The 45-year-old couldn’t resist a joke: “On a side note... For a man that's done it all I'm going home to get some granny action tonight! First time for everything!”

Friends and colleagues flocked to the comments to congratulate the 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy star.

“You’re a granddad! Congratulations to you all, great news!! X,” said Glenda Gilson, who recently celebrated her 40th birthday in lockdown.

Darren Kennedy commented: “Brilliant news, congrats grandad Baz!”

Broadcaster Suzanne Kane was also keen to show her support, writing: “Congrats Baz, Tanja and family. Delighted baby arrived safe and sound. Enjoy x”

“50 ways not to be a granddad?!!” she added, referencing Baz’s Emmy Award-winning show.

Baz is father to daughters Hanna (10) and Mahy (7). He is also stepdad to his wife Tanja Evans’ kids Charlotte, Harry, Jake, and Amelia.
