RIP RTÉ broadcaster Donncha Ó Dúlaing to be laid to rest on Wednesday

He was predeceased by his daughter Sinéad and by his wife Vera, who died just days before him on August 29th.

Veteran RTÉ broadcaster Donncha Ó Dúlaing will be laid to rest tomorrow.

The Cork presenter died “peacefully” in Foxrock Nursing Home on Saturday 4th September.

He was predeceased by his daughter Sinéad and by his wife Vera, who died just days before him on August 29th.

Donncha’s funeral will take place at 10am on Wednesday in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Merrion Road in Dublin 4.

As a mark of respect to his career, Donncha’s funeral cortège will be passing RTÉ Studios on Nutley Lane at approximately 9.30am.

A notice on RIP.ie reads: “Beloved husband of the late Vera, father of the late Sinéad and brother of the late Sr. Mary Dowling.

“Sadly missed by sons Feargal, Ruairí, Dónal and Donncha, son-in-law Eddie, sister Kitty and by his daughters-in-law Dervilla, Lorraine, Anne and Lorraine, grandchildren Cian, Aisling, Caoilfhionn, Ruairí, Sinéad, Diarmaid, Finnán and Bláthnaid, extended family and friends.

“Our sincere thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Foxrock Nursing Home for their care and kindness.

“Due to current government restrictions, a family funeral will take place privately, but can be viewed online on Wednesday (September 8th 2021).”

Donncha worked in both radio and TV and was known for his cultural and traditional music programmes.

His broadcasting career began when he joined Radio Éireann in 1964 and lasted over 50 years and his last programme at the station was Fáilte Isteach which wrapped up in 2015 when Mr Ó Dúlaing retired.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin shared a tribute to the late broadcaster online, writing: “Very saddened to hear of the passing of Donncha Ó Dúlaing.

"An outstanding broadcaster who brought much joy to his loyal listeners over the decades. His interviews will live long in the memory.”
