Roz Purcell has shared some stunning photos from her sunset Christmas hike.

The Tipperary native jetted off to Madeira in Portugal last week, where she discovered her “new favourite hike” - a 12.2km trek from Pico do Arieiro to Pico do Ruivo and back.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Roz documented her day by sharing some snaps from her hike, which she began at Pico do Arieiro at sunrise.

She posted some incredible snaps from the mountain, showing off the sky’s gorgeous orange and pink hues before sharing a photo of her trail map with her followers.

“Some stats. It’s basically a peak to peak hike. Out and back 12.2km, you go up and down a lot,” she explained.

“The trail is amazing and extremely well signposted! Insane views along all the 6km out!”

Sharing more information about the trail, she posted a video of herself walking along a cliff’s edge as well as a picture of a steep ascent ahead of her.

“It’s cliff edge all along!” the former Miss Universe Ireland said.

“Lots of steep descents/ascents - legs be burning. Also ladders along the cliffs (I love heights but if you don’t you may not like this part.

“Add it to the MUST DO list when in Madeira (good levels of fitness needed but well marked and nothing technical)!”

At the mountain’s highest peak, Roz enjoyed a well-deserved break at a coffee shop and gorged on “all the desserts” she could eat.
