Rachel Allen praises son Joshua for training 'really hard' for MMA fights
Rachel Allen has praised her son for putting in hard work after he began his MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) career earlier this year.
The 21-year-old took home the gold in his first competition back in August and has been on a winning streak ever since, fighting with Samson Martial Arts club in Co. Cork.
In September, he won his first K-1 fight, a style that combines the most skilful and effective elements of all martial arts which involve the skills of karate, kick boxing, and kung-fu.
At the time, he said: “He posted: “Got the win by decision today at my first K1 fight, didn’t perform as well as I wanted but still happy to get a win at something I’m not comfortable at.
“As always massive thanks to everyone at Samson Martial Arts for everything ye do for me and to my dad for always being there and supporting me.”
And his celebrity chef mum has been beaming with pride ever since he made his MMA debut, although she admitted that she couldn’t bear to watch Joshua in the ring for fear that he might get hurt.
“He's good, he's training really hard. The guys that he trains with are all just really great. A really good bunch of lovely people,” she told RSVP Live.
Rachel went to say that while her family is doing well, they have no solid plans for Christmas this year as the uncertainty of Covid is still a cause of concern.

“They're all good, thank goodness. Nothing planned just yet, isn't it crazy?” she said.
“I've given up planning! Who knows what next year will be like? I think it's kind of futile to plan at the moment really.
“I think we'll just have to see what happens, won't we?”
