Actor's heartache Peaky Blinders star Emmett Scanlon tells of pain of losing baby
The Deceived actor Emmett J Scanlan has spoken bravely about the tragedy he and his wife endured when they lost a baby last year.
The Dubliner, who featured in Peaky Blinders and Guardians of the Galaxy, made the honest revelations on Facebook and Instagram.
The 41-year-old actor, who is married to fellow actor Claire Cooper, revealed they lost their baby last July.
Such was the enormity of the trauma that along with the horrific loss, Claire was left “fighting for her life” in the process.
Emmett made the heart wrenching admission to highlight National Baby Loss Awareness Week.
He wrote: “July of last year we lost our baby and in the process my wife was left fighting for her life.
“Exactly 12 months later and after 40 hours of labour with an emergency C-Section, Ocean-Torin was born.
“The trauma her body and mind went through in that year is beyond anything I can possibly comprehend."
He added: “Helpless, all I could do was hold her hand. And once again, I fell in love just a little bit more. #nationalbabylossawarenessweek.”
The former Hollyoaks star posted a poignant picture of him clasping Claire’s hand as she lies in her hospital bed.
The couple began dating in 2010 while playing Brendan Brady and Jacqui McQuee on Hollyoaks.
They announced they were pregnant with their son Ocean-Torin in May of this year and welcomed him in July.
Emmett recently brought Ocean-Torin back to Dublin to meet his 18 year old daughter Kayla and has revealed how parenthood has completely changed his life.
Scanlan’s star has been on the rise in recent years have received rave reviews for his performance in Virgin Media’s The Deceived which he starred in alongside Paul Mescal.
As well as playing Billy Grade in Peaky Blinders, he also landed a leading role in the Harlan Coben thriller Safe, which was bought up by Netflix.
