Proud Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan has been sharing her delight as it was revealed that Bridgerton is now officially Netflix’s biggest ever series.

The period drama was watched by a record-breaking 82 million households in its first 28 days of release, making it the most successful show in the history of the channel.

Adapted from Julia Quinn's novels and set in the highly competitive world of the debutante season in regency England, it has hit number one on the Netflix charts in 83 countries, including the US, UK, Brazil, France, India and South Africa.

Nicola, who also played Clare Devlin in the Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls took to her social media pages to offer her thanks to fans.

"I don’t even know what to say thank you all so much," she wrote with a love heart emoji on Instagram alongside a post that reads: "Over 82 million households watched Shondaland’s #Bridgerton globally in its first 28 days, making our show @Netflix’s biggest series debut ever."

She has received praise from across the globe with fans writing gushing tributes to her and the show.

"Just discovered you are Lady Whistledown! Wow! Never expected that! Fab series, really enjoyed it. Here’s to the next!2 wrote one fan.

Another added: "We love you and the show.. can't wait to see second season."

"I watched it almost daily sense Christmas! Is that counted in the 82 million I wonder?" joked another.

While one added: "Not surprising, it was brilliant, gratuitous, amazing costumes, well written and an amazing cast all in that order."

Nicola also offered Kim Kardashian some advice when the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was wondering whether she should give it a go.

In response, Nicola who plays Penelope Featherington in the hit show, replied to Kim's tweet, when the reality star asked her 68.7million Twitter followers for some Bridgerton-based advice.

"Should I start Bridgerton tonight?", Kim (40) wrote, to which Nicola replied, "I’m biased, but yes."

Netflix also replied, "Yes. Keeping up with Bridgerton."

"When I went for the first audition, I only had a couple of days to prepare,” Nicola revealed recently.

“I didn’t have time to read the books or do anything like that," the 34-year-old added. "I just thought, 'I’ll give this a go and if I get a second call, then I’ll read everything.' But that didn’t happen, I just got the job.

"So then it was like, 'I’d better read these books and figure out who this character is.'

"I also went to a lot of the fan forums online, because these books have been out for 20 years. People adore them and have such a connection to them. Penelope is really close to their hearts."
