Hollywood superstar Matt Damon enjoyed two separate cakes on Thursday as he marked his milestone 50th birthday.

The Sunday World can reveal that fellow cast members and crew surprised the actor during a break in filming The Last Duel at Bective Abbey in Co. Meath by presenting him with a huge birthday cake.

"They sang happy birthday to him and, as there was so many people present, there wouldn't have been enough cake to go around - they ordered in dozens of donuts, which they handed out to the get-together for the celebration," reveals an insider.

Around teatime Matt was whisked by limousine van to his current residence in Killiney, Co. Dublin.

"His family had a little party for him and invited a few of the people assigned to look after them and kept to government guidelines on the amount of people allowed into the mansion," adds our source.

"Matt took a few calls on the phone and by Zoom from family and friends in America."

Among the wellwishers were his Argentinian actress wife Luciana Bozan Barossa who he married in 2005, having first met her in 2003 in Miami while filming Stuck On You.

He has three daughters with Luciana, ranging in aged from seven to 13, as well as a 20-year-old stepdaughter \that Luciana ad from a previous relationship .

One near neighbour and close friend in Dublin who could not make it was Bono.

"He's out of town at the moment," reveals our source.

Matt has spent the past several days filming at Bective Bridge, with the actual bridge, River Boyne and Cistercian Abbey set to be featured in scenes of The Last Duel, a Hollywood blockbuster by Damon and Ben Affleck, whihc is being directed by Ridley Scott.

The area was shut off to the public as extras joined geese, flocks of sheep, and some well-dressed horses in a French village scene on the road to Paris, the setting for the 14th century story.

Based on the book 'The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France' by Eric Jager, the screenplay is written by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Nicole Holofcener. Damon stars in the lead role opposite Adam Driver and Killing Eve beauty Jodie Comer, with Affleck in a supporting role.
