Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been released from custody and has been charged with drink-driving by the Malibu Sheriff’s department. 

Police confirmed to the Sunday World that the actor was released on Monday from custody however, they will not be releasing his mug shot to the public.

The actor was reportedly confronted by police in LA after getting into a minor car accident on Sunday evening.

He is due to appear in court next February.

A report, carried on American website TMZ, alleges that police were called to a “solo, minor car accident” at around 5pm on Sunday.

It is claimed that when they arrived at the scene, the Tudors star was allegedly arrested for a misdemeanour DUI, after he failed a field sobriety test.

He was released 24 hours later with a citation.

The Bend It Like Beckham star's battle with alcoholism has been well documented over the years.

It is believed the Matchpoint actor has had six stints in rehab the latest occurring after a reported air rage incident in 2018.

When contacted by the Sunday World for comment, Deputy Trina Schrader, a representative for the Malibu police said: “He was released yesterday.

"We will not be releasing the suspect photo.”
