Coughlan chose to wear a custom ensemble created by British designer Richard Quinn, telling Vogue magazine; “I can't believe I'm really going.”
“This is the morning of the event and my dress is hanging up beside me. It feels surreal,” she said.
“The pieces feel amazing to wear, even when I put on the first toile it was beautifully cut. Richard and his team are so impressive.”

Although they didn’t arrive together, Paul Mescla and his ‘Normal People’ co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones reunited on the red carpet last night.

Paul Mescal arrived with his girlfriend (and potential fiancée) Phoebe Bridgers. Mescal ditched the O'Neills shorts and wore a streamline black suit, a Cartier watch, and a natty moustache.
In a notable moment, Donatella Versace thanked rapper Cardi B for the "amazing birthday present" of accompanying her on the red carpet at the Met Gala.
The prestigious fashion event on May 2 coincided this year with the world-renowned fashion designer's 67th birthday.
The pair were pictured at the event together, with the US rapper in a heavy golden gown by Versace.

"This is what I wanted to give, I wanted to give woman and Donatella brings that woman," she told Vogue.
"I'm feeling spectacular... rocking this dress and showcasing it from Ms Donatella, so thank you so much and happy birthday."
Versace added that the dress was "one of the most spectacular" made by the designer and praised the rapper's "bravery for wearing it".
"She is so brave to wear it because it's so heavy but look at her body, she's insane, only she could wear it," she said.

She later posted on Instagram: "Cardi you are an absolute vision. It was the most amazing birthday present to walk the Met red carpet with you."
And Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz made their debut as a married couple at this year's Gala following their star-studded Florida wedding last month.
The pair said the first few weeks of married life had been "so much fun" and that it felt like they were "on a play date forever."

They were joined at the prestigious fashion event by British celebrities including Oscar-winning actor Riz Ahmed, Kate Moss, James Corden and rapper Stormzy.
Brooklyn, 23, son of David and Victoria Beckham, wed Transformers star Peltz last month in a star-studded ceremony at her family's sprawling estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
Guests at the wedding included tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, Eva Longoria and Spice Girls Mel B and Mel C.
Speaking to Vogue on the red carpet, Beckham said: "It's so much fun. Marrying your best mate, it's the best.
"We feel like we're on a play date forever," added Peltz.
The model and photographer opted for a sheer shirt and a cream suit from Valentino's creative director Pier Paulo Piccioli, while his wife wore a flowing, off-the-shoulder fuchsia gown.
"Usually I go with a plain black suit. But this time I went (with) a sheer shirt and cream suit. Pier Paulo always kills it," Beckham told Vogue.
Peltz said of her own outfit: "I'm so honoured. Every time I get to wear one of his dresses I'm so excited. You feel like a princess in them."
This year's Gala was a family affair for the Kardashian-Jenners, who united on the event's red carpet for the first time ever.
Matriarch Kris Jenner said she was most excited to see "my girls" at the prestigious fashion event in New York and said all five of her daughters looked "amazing".
The sisters, Kourtney, 43, Kim, 41, Khloe, 37, Kendall, 26, and Kylie, 24, all show-cased eye-catching looks.
"I just want to get to the top of the carpet, I don't care if I have roller-skates on," Kris told Vogue.
"For me that's when the fun starts and I get to watch them. All five of them are coming."
It was Khloe Kardashian's first ever appearance at the Gala, and the reality star said it was a "scary but fabulous" experience.
"It's a much shorter carpet than I thought... it's so scary but it's fabulous. I'm so excited to be here," she told Vogue.
"I'm so excited that we're all here together... Kourt and Trav are right behind us, my mom, and I think Kendall and Kylie just ran in. It's going to be a fun night.
"I just had to be a part of this experience," she added.
Her sister Kourtney and her partner Travis Barker, who recently married in a secret ceremony in Las Vegas, said: "We're just having fun... with all the sisters."
The pair both wore Thom Browne.
Barker said of his outfit: "I just don't care, I think it's how I grew up, punk rock is going against the grain and doing what you want."
Kendall Jenner wore a custom-made black Prada gown with a sweeping black statement train with a striking bleached brow.
Her sister Kylie donned an off-white wedding dress inspired outfit, complete with a veil attached to a backwards-facing baseball cap.
But it was Kim Kardashian's look that stole the show, arriving in a historic gown worn by Marilyn Monroe during her 1962 "Happy Birthday" performance to former president John F Kennedy.
Kim reportedly had to prepare for her entrance in a "special dressing room".

The Kardashian reunion at the Gala came just hours after their victory in a US defamation lawsuit brought against them by ex-reality star and former partner of Rob Kardashian, Blac Chyna.
Kim Kardashian has said she was "so honoured" to be wearing a historic gown once worn by Hollywood superstar Marilyn Monroe.
The reality star revealed she had lost 16 pounds to fit into the "iconic" gown, which was on loan to her from the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum.
It was worn by Monroe during her famous 1962 performance of Happy Birthday to US president John F Kennedy.
The Gala, is one of the biggest and most exclusive nights in the fashion world and attracts a number of high-end and outrageous outfits.
Sharing pictures of the gown on Instagram, Kardashian revealed the skin-tight gown was adorned with more than 6,000 crystals, hand-sewn by costumier Jean Louis.

"I am so honoured to be wearing the iconic dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to sing Happy Birthday to President John F Kennedy," she wrote.
"It is a stunning skin-tight gown adorned with more than 6,000 hand-sewn crystals by costumier Jean Louis.
"Thank you Ripley's Believe It or Not! for giving me the opportunity to debut this evocative piece of fashion history for the first time since the late Marilyn Monroe wore it.
"I am forever grateful for this moment."
"I had this idea to try it on and then they came with armed guards and gloves," she told Vogue on the event's red carpet.
"I tried it on and it didn't fit me. I said, 'Give me three weeks.' I had to lose 16 pounds down today.
"It was such a challenge. It was like a (movie) role. I was determined to fit it.
"I haven't had carbs or sugar in about three weeks. We're having (a) pizza and donut party back at the hotel (after the Met Gala)."

Kardashian arrived at the glitzy night with boyfriend Pete Davidson, who joked that she had not allowed him to wear his "propeller hat".
The evening's co-host Blake Lively gifted the Gala with the first costume change of the night.
Shortly after arriving on the arm of husband and co host Ryan Reynolds in a bronze and rose Versace gown, the matching bow was unfurled into a large train, transforming her dress into a blue and gold wonder.
The star said her look was a "homage to New York City" with inspiration taken from the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and the blue ceiling of Grand Central Station.
Speaking to Vogue on the red carpet she revealed that her head-piece had seven stars like the city's famous monument The Statue Of Liberty, and encrusted with 25 stones to represent the statue's 25 windows.
Popstar Lizzo said she felt "like a piece of art" in her outfit for the event - a large black silk coat with gold bullion decorations created by Thom Browne.
"It took 22,000 hours to make this coat. I'm just so happy to be in it I feel like a piece of art," she told Vogue on the red carpet.
Talking about her long, corkscrew nails she joked: "I'm going to be opening everybody's wine tonight... they're amazing. I can wipe my ass with these, believe it or not.
"I can do everything with these things, hopefully I can play the flute."
Famous British faces also appeared including Grime artist Stormzy, who admitted he was "nervous" about attending his first ever Met Gala.
The rapper wore an all white Burberry suit with a matching long, white cape, which he acknowledged was not his usual look.
"Usually I wear all black a lot of the time... so it's nice to shine today," he told Vogue on the event's red carpet.
"I am nervous, it's crazy like, it's a lot different but it's amazing, I'm just going to embrace it.
"It's a lot different when you see them (celebrities) on the telly, so I'm just going to get some selfies, have a little drink and chill out and take it all in."
