An Irish singer was tonight chosen by Little Mix as part of the group that will support them on their next UK and Ireland tour.

Louth lad Matthew Nolan (21) and his rock/pop band Since September were the surprise winners of the two month long competition on BBC talent show Little Mix: The Search.

Matthew was one of four Irish singers who made the final – the others included Meath lass Tamara Salmon in Nostalia, and Dubliners Megan Whelan and Ali Moran in Melladaze.

“This has been an absolute pleasure,” an excited Matthew announced in front of millions of TV viewers tonight.

“We have all dreamt of this and it could have been any one of us, from the four different bands. It could have went any way. I’m delighted, and I’ve been glad to get to no everyone on this stage.”

Judy Nelson was forced to pull out of last night’s final – and also tonight’s MTV Europe awards – as she’s unwell.

Matthew, who hails from Drogheda, previously said Since September will be "putting into action" everything singer Perrie Edwards said she wanted to see from them.

He said: "They said that felt emotional seeing us.

"They said that we made them feel like we've been together for a couple of years which, as an instrument band, it's the best compliment you can get because sometimes the musical chemistry is the hardest thing to sort out so them saying that is a great compliment to us.

"Also Perrie gave us a line about what she wanted to see from us this week and we have taken

And Matthew added: "We have been flat out rehearsing a lot more than last time as well. I think we have taken a different approach for this song.”

Matthew started writing when he was 16 years old and has since released multiple singles and EP.

He previously appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain to talk about how he got a joke tattoo with Depacio written on his foot in honour of his mum Geraldine.
