Sharon Horgan has revealed how she had to watch the filming of her new series on a family of Irish sisters from her sickbed when she was struck down with Covid during the pandemic.

The series for Apple TV stars a who’s who of Irish female actresses including Eva Birthistle, Sarah Greene, Eve Hewson along with Anne-Marie Duff.

The Catastrophe actress told of her trials of trying to film the series during the lockdown.

She told her Instagram followers: “We went into first lockdown writing this and had the difficult pleasure of filming for ten months in this time of covid across England, Northern Ireland, and Ireland.

“It was a mammoth undertaking only made possible by a cast and crew that could win medals for endurance.

“At one point I had the out-of-body experience of lying in bed with covid in London watching all the gang (and a stand-in wearing a wig) filming without me in Ireland.”

But she told her Instagram followers it was also “such a joy”.

“I got to work opposite and be a family with the wonderful Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle, Sarah Greene, and Eve Hewson.

“This is the story of the Garvey sisters, my Bad Sisters, and their families, their friends, their foes.”

The highly anticipated series from Emmy Award-nominee and BAFTA Award-winning star Horgan is set to debut this summer on Apple TV.

It is described as a “delicious blend of both dark comedy and thriller”.

Bad Sisters follows the lives of the Garvey sisters bound together by the premature death of their parents and a promise to always protect one another.

The series, which is adapted and written by Horgan with Brett Baer, is among a string of projects featuring the multi-talented Meath star.

She is also set to appear in a new family drama called Best Interest opposite Michael Sheen.

Horgan and Sheen play a married couple with a daughter who develops a life-threatening condition in the four-part series currently filming in London.

In the BBC drama, doctors believe it is in the child’s best interests to be allowed to die, but her family disagrees.

Best Interests follows the fight that will take them through every stage of a legal process, as they struggle to contemplate the huge decision.

She is also set to appear on the big screen opposite Nicolas Cage in his latest movie as his ex-wife.

The action-comedy titled The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent sees Cage starring as a fictionalised version of himself who is feeling creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin.

It leads him to accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a super fan, played by Pedro Pascal.

Cage ends up channelling his most iconic on-screen characters to save himself and his loved ones.

The Irish writer has previously starred in the films Game Night and Military Wives after a string of TV roles.

Over the past decade, the Meath mother-of-two has become one of the most recognisable women on TV on both sides of the Atlantic.

Pulling in 2006, which was her first foray into the world of the small screen, followed the chaotic lives of three single women living in unglamorous Penge in southeast London

It was the hugely popular Catastrophe based on some of her own life experiences which made her a household name in America.

Divorce – which was Sarah Jessica Parker’s first TV vehicle since Sex in The City – cemented Horgan’s status as a comedy genius.

While in her series Motherland, she openly admits cherry-picking storylines from the school run in London.
