Gerry Ryan's daughter Bonnie legally married her partner John on Friday, but their main wedding celebration will take place in Italy, the Sunday World has learned.

Describing it as the "most special day", Bonnie (29) posted a photo of her wearing an elegant white suit and hat and clutching a bunch of flowers at the aftermath of a civil ceremony in Dublin.

Bonnie, her new husband, John Greenhalgh, and their guests enjoyed cocktails in the five star Merrion Hotel followed by dinner in The Ivy restaurant on Dawson Street.

Insiders say the influencer has now asked family and friends to fly to Italy in late May for a church wedding.

Her sisters Lottie and Babette will be her bridesmaids, while best friend and fellow influencer Rosie Connolly will be among the wedding party.

 

This will be the second time Bonnie has attempted to get married in Italy, having cancelled before due to Covid restrictions.

Bonnie has already picked out her wedding dress and also undertaken marriage guidance classes with John in her home area of Clontarf.

The couple have been engaged for just over two years after John proposed in New York in November 2019, and have been together for nearly 13 years since they were teens.

John is northern Europe sales and development manager of Asana, which is a platform which helps teams organise and manage their work and whose clients include Airbnb and Uber.

The TV presenter and make-up artist also posted her social media announcement yesterday with the date of her civil ceremony: "4.2.22".

The chic white suit she wore is by British designer Nadine Merabi.

Bonnie wrote on social media: "Yesterday myself and John got legally married in front of just our immediate family. It was the most special day. Our actual wedding will be early this summer, but we feel very lucky to have had a beautiful start to the celebrations."

Among those congratulating her were her younger sister Babette. "My sister is a wife!!!," she raved.

Her older sister, 2fm star Lottie, posted a photo of her and bride Bonnie on her Instagram, which was captioned: "The happiest day for the most beautiful bride".

Meanwhile, brother Elliot remarked "What's this for?".

Former Miss Ireland Aoife Walsh gushed: "Gorgeous!!! Congrats girl xxx", while pop star Una Healy exclaimed "Congratulations Bonnie xx".

Bonnie previously said she was frustrated about the postponement of her Italian wedding but is now excited about the prospect of it finally coming together.

 

"We are allowed to see people again and actually do things so I feel like I am getting that buzz again," she told RSVP magazine.

She added: "It is special to be excited over everything that goes with a wedding day once again, especially after such disappointment.

"The celebration is getting a new lease of life, which is nice."

She previously wrote on Instagram last year when the initial date was shelved: "An extra year of being your fiancée doesn't sound too bad to me. 2021 isn't the year we get married. 2022 sounds much better for us…especially because our number is 22."

Bonnie will be following in the footsteps of her big sister Lottie, who married Fabio Aprile in La Machi Italy in May 2017. She, too, had a civil ceremony in Dublin just a few weeks before her Italian church wedding.

 

Over 40 guests, including broadcaster Dave Fanning, attended the ceremony in the quaint village, where Dublin-born Fabio's grandparents hail from.

The eldest Ryan son, actor Rex, had a registry office wedding in Dublin in May 2018, when he married Migle Jasiene, with just a handful of guests at the ceremony and the couple later had a celebratory dinner in Michelin two-star restaurant Patrick Guilbaud.

Bonnie's legendary 2FM DJ dad Gerry died of a heart attack in Dublin in April 2010, aged 53.

 

Her mother Morah, who split from Gerry in 2008, is now in a new relationship with singer Don Mescal and the couple were spotted having lunch yesterday in Dublin's Ivy restaurant.

Morah's luxury home in Clontarf, where she and Gerry raised their five children, is back on the market having initially being put up for sale for €2m and then later €1.85m before being withdrawn for several months.

The five-bed end-of-terrace 18th century house now has an asking price of €1.59m.
