Anne Doyle has revealed that her house was haunted by a ghost when she first moved.

The former RTÉ newsreader, who lives in south Dublin with her partner John McGrattan, revealed that the ghost of an old woman lived in her basement for a few weeks.

Telling the story of her paranormal encounter on The Six O’Clock Show at the weekend, the 69-year-old explained: “We actually did have a ghost.

“But she either liked us very much and decided to leave, or she didn’t like us at all and decided to leave but she was there when we moved in.”

Anne told Ray Foley and guest host Una Healy that the ghost didn’t stay in her house for “very long.”

“I don’t know what that says about her or about us she was there for I would say four or five weeks. I saw her twice,” she said.

“A couple of people [saw her], it wasn’t just me. There were independent teetotal witnesses that saw her.

“She was a very tiny lady with grey hair in a bun and wearing a kind of wrap-around kind overall and she was in the basement... It would have been quite old-fashioned like a crossover apron.

“There were rumours she was seen elsewhere but I only ever met her [in the basement].”

Thankfully, the spirit wasn’t menacing but Anne admitted she was “glad” when the ghost disappeared.

“She wasn’t [scary] she didn’t engage, thank god, I wouldn’t have fancied that. She was just moving around, she was very busy. She was flitting around.

“I was just as glad when she left. For a long time, I was kind of apprehensive going down to the basement,” she shared.
