Mrs Brown’s Boys star Fiona O’Carroll has announced her split from husband and co-star Martin Delany.

The actor, who is the daughter of the sitcom’s creator and star Brendan O’Carroll, plays Maria Brown in the popular series.

Fiona and Martin have been together since they were teenagers and got married in 2006.

Speaking about their divorce in the RTÉ Guide’s Christmas preview, the 41-year-old said: “Myself and Martin met very young. I was 16 , and I suppose he’s all I’ve ever known and we just kind of grew apart.”

She said that the pair “wanted different things” and drifted apart.

Fiona continued: “There were no major fights, and nobody else was involved but it was a case of not being on the same page any longer.

“I think I hung on for as long as I did because when my own parents broke up, that was very public, and there was a lot of hurt involved there.

“I still have a lot of love for him and I only want the best for him and I think he feels the same way about me.”

Fiona said that Martin, who played Mrs Brown’s youngest son Trevor in the show, currently lives in Portugal but added that the pair co-parent their four sons.

This year's Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special will air at 10.20pm Christmas Day on BBC One with another festive episode set to air on New Year's Day.
