The Elaine Show has been dropped from Virgin Media’s weekday schedule.

After a decade on air, in a shock announcement made this morning , the popular daytime show presented by Elaine Crowley has been scrubbed from the station's all-new format.

The veteran broadcaster will now present Ireland AM alongside Simon Delaney from Friday to Sunday.

Taking to her social media platforms to break the news to her fans, the 44-year-old wrote:

"It’s with a heavy heart I say goodbye to the Elaine show.

"It’s been such a privilege and an honour to work with such amazing women and men over the last 10 years.

"Such great friendships have been forged, and many many laughs have been had, especially behind the scenes (the bold stuff I can’t tell you about!) I just want to thank everyone involved in the show: the crew, production team, panelist’s and most of all the viewers.

"Your support has meant the world to me and got me through some difficult times.

"I’m so lucky to have had the chance to work with you all, and have my name on a mug!! Anyway, enough waffling from me for now.

"Take care of yourselves, be kind to yourselves and thank you for being there."

Fans and friends were quick to show their support. Businesswoman Ellen Kavanagh wrote: "Such an achievement to have reach 10years with your show! Incredible. When one door closes another open. Onwards and upwards."

Popular panellist and lifestyle blogger Sue Jordan added:

"I truly hope you know the lives you've touched with your work, Pal. I could never thank you enough for some of the best years/free therapy of my life, the show will be missed by so many but I know you're destined for much greater things too."
