Conor McGregor urges fans to ‘protect the ocean’ after catching a shark outside his Miami home.

The UFC star took to social media today to share some photos holding a small nurse shark that he caught in the water behind his $5.8 million Miami Beach residence.

The Crumlin native grinned wide as he held the creature, which was nearly the same size as him, while he stood on a boat dock.

Captioning the post, he wrote: “Caught a shark from my back garden today in Miami."

McGregor received a horde of comments calling him a “beast” for “catching sharks with his bare hands.”

One fan wrote: “Well done king!”

However, the Notorious also received a few comments from fans who were concerned about the shark's safety, which prompted the 33-year-old to share a video of him returning the animal back in the sea a few moments later.

“Back in you go, my little ocean critter. Protect the ocean. Fish responsibly,” he added.

It comes just days after the McGregor was awarded the Key to the City of Miami by Mayor Francis X Suarez.

In a series of Instagram snaps, the proud Dubliner posed with the Mayor as he received the honour while his family, including partner Dee Devlin, enjoyed the presentation
