The UFC star and the Hollywood legend linked up while the entire McGregor clan visited the Italian capital to celebrate the christening of Conor’s son Rian, which took place at St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
The Notorious and his partner Dee Devlin welcomed their third child back in May, just before he lost his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier over the summer.
The couple are also parents to four-year-old Conor Jr. and two-year-old daughter Croía.
After the christening, the McGregor family bumped into Johnny Depp, who made sure to take photos with Conor’s niece Taylor and parents, Margaret and Tony, before having a taste of the Dubliner’s very own Proper No. Twelve whiskey.
Sharing a series of snaps from the exciting night to his Instagram account, McGregor thanked Depp for his “kindness and hospitality” towards his family.
“Myself and John Depp enjoying a fine glass of Proper Twelve on the rocks,” the Crumlin native wrote.
“Thank you for your kindness and hospitality towards my friends and family Johnny! A proper gentleman @johnnydepp @properwhiskey”
While many fans and followers were delighted at the sight of the “iconic duo,” Conor’s older sister Aoife was less than impressed that she wasn’t there to meet the actor.
Commenting on the post, the 36-year-old used some crying emojis and wrote: “In the depps of it I wasn’t there.”
Conor’s Rome throwback comes after he baffled US fans by comparing himself to Wicklow’s Sugarloaf Mountain.
The MMA athlete posted about his trapezius muscles on social media on Wednesday after a series of late-night tweets about his loss in UFC 264 defeat.
“Is that the Sugarloaf, no it’s me traps, get your boots on. Build with @mcgregorfast #12” he said.
