Glamour model Bridget Byrne and gay Big Brother star Hughie Maughan are planning to have a baby together with the mum of four offering to give him the 'gift of life'.

Big-hearted Bridget, who also uses the stage name Ava Van Rose, wants to be a surrogate mother and the couple are exploring ways of having a baby together and sharing custody.

"It's not set in stone exactly when it's happening but there's talks going on and we are looking at different clinics and we are looking at different ways to do it," Bridget (30) told the Sunday World last night.

"He is over the moon with the thought of being able to do this...he's thrilled that somebody would actually willingly offer that, because it doesn't happen like that usually."

Hughie, who starred on Big Brother in 2016 and memorably stunned viewers when his fake tan went wrong when taking part on Dancing With The Stars a year later, admits he is overjoyed, not only at Bridget's offer, but also at the prospect of becoming a parent.

"I'd be the best parent," beams Hughie (26). "I don't want a child in my arms right now, as the route that I have to go down takes a few years.

"Obviously we are not going and having a baby anytime soon, but she has said she would be open to being a surrogate and I said I'm obviously going to have to use a surrogate to have a baby.

"We are in a world full of a pandemic, we are not going in and out of IVF clinics and I don't have tens of thousands or euros or whatever it costs to have a baby anyways."

The pair became friends when they took part in a MTV show called OMG: Rise of the Instagrammers. They hung out at celebrity events and parties and have kept in constant touch on social media.

Hughie, a Traveller from Ballymun, north Dublin, recently broke up with his long-term English boyfriend Ryan Ruckledge, whom he met on Big Brother and moved home from Blackpool to live with his family.

He has lately been following stories of how some people desperate to have children have achieved their dream through surrogacy, adoption and other alternative family set-ups. He also wants to change stigmas and normalise gay families.

Bubbly Bridget, who hails from Clondalkin in Dublin and now lives in Athlone, was intrigued with Hughie's dream at becoming a father.

"She always thought about what it's like to not be able to be a parent and said to me 'I would actually be a surrogate for somebody in your position,'" he explains.

"Bridget is so passionate about it and it's so amazing to see so much depth to her, and a completely different side to her life."

Separated Bridget rose to fame through her modelling work, reality TV appearances and also various plastic surgery operations.

She has four children, ranging in ages from two to 13 from previous relationships. "It's not happening right now at this minute, but we are talking about it and planning to do it at some stage in the future," she confirms.

"We are organising it, looking into it. We are trying to find out which is the best clinic and what is the best rate and going forward what is the best option for himself and myself."

Bridget admits she felt sorry for Hughie that he was lonely during lockdown after his recent split and is pining to have a baby someday.

"He got talking to me with regards to him loving to eventually have his own child one day and his dream of having his own family, his own biological child," she reflects.

"I told him 'you know what, I have been so lucky and so blessed with the fact I've had four children', I felt sorry for the fact that he is my friend and he is such a loving caring person, just because of what he is interested in sexually, that he can't have that, or there's roadblocks in the way of that.

She adds: "I feel the country still looks down on people because of their sexual preference. I think it's wrong. I wanted to put in this offer to him that going forward when we are both at a stable position in our lives and there's no Covid, that it would be something that I would be willing to offer, the gift of life, the gift of being able to have his own child and obviously then he would have a relationship with the surrogate mother and it's not a stranger to him.

"We would have joint custody and he would both have rights over the child."

She claims that eggs could cost as much as €10,000 from a clinic.

"I don't think someone should have to pay that crazy amount of money to be able to have their own child, I would love to give that as a gift...the gift of life is an amazing thing."

Brave Hughie has previously explored the possibility of becoming a father.

"I'm not ready for a baby to be in my arms, but if I could have a child naturally and it was handed to me I'd look after it of course I would and I would definitely be able to handle it. I would love a baby at around 29 or 30 and that's not far away. If Bridget can help me do that I would be forever indebted.

"I'm a very family-orientated person."
