Barry Keoghan has thanked Angelina Jolie after the Hollywood A-lister hailed the Dublin actor as “really intelligent”.

The young star and veteran actress appear on screen together in the new Marvel movie Eternals which is due in cinemas on November 5.

Jolie (45) said she was so excited watching “young talent” like Keoghan (28) on set.

“Barry is great,” she declared. “He’s great and I’m very excited for his character to come forward. It’s a new Marvel character. He is such a talent.

"He has such a deep… he’s fun and he’s cool... but he’s really intelligent. It’s exciting to watch a young talent come forward like that,” she told Joe.ie.

Keoghan posted on his Instagram story a link to the interview that featured her lavish praise with the comment “Yup Angie!”

The Tomb Raider star previously described Keoghan as “very unique” to work with while speaking to Martin King on the Six O’Clock Show last year.

“You know, he’s very unique — and that’s a fun thing to see these days,” she said at the time.

“When you meet somebody and you say, ‘Well, there’s a lot of people that can do good work...’, but when strong, unique personalities come forward and they have their own... something that you haven’t seen before, it’s really exciting, it’s fun to see. So, I think highly of him.”

In return Keoghan once said Jolie was like a mother figure to him on set.

He said at the time: “You look up to these people and then they end up as these caring women who look after you.

“Growing up with women — like with my granny and that — it’s nice to have that on set.

“That maternal thing is great. Angelina is also a director. So she is looking out for us. That’s an experience. It was lovely.”
