He has long been known as the ultimate Conor McGregor impersonator, yet performing his hilarious act in front of the man himself proved to be a step too far for Al Foran.

The Dublin funnyman was starring alongside McGregor's sister Erin in a Christmas pantomime in 2019 when The Notorious turned up to watch the show.

And as Foran told the Sunday World in an exclusive interview: "Conor came along to the St Stephen's Day performance.

"It was a show for kids, so I was doing impressions of Woody from Toy Story, Scooby-Doo and the donkey from Shrek and I could hear him laughing. His laugh is so distinctive, as we all know.

"Then I met him after and his Mam rushed over and told me to do the impression and I couldn't do it in front of him.

"I was in this ridiculous outfit and it just didn't feel right to do it with him stood there. To be fair, Conor has always been great with me and my impression of him.

"He sent out a jokey tweet a while back saying I have been doing terrible impressions of him for long enough and I know he likes the other ones I do."

Foran's masterful impressions of McGregor, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Mike Tyson, Katie Taylor and a host of other stars have made him a huge star around the world both in live shows and on social media.

Now Al is facing up to his most daunting gig yet, as he is set to take on McGregor in a charity wheelchair boxing match later this year, with the event arranged by Irish comedian Sir Stevo Timothy to raise money for the Irish Wheelchair Association.

"Stevo has done a fantastic job of getting these shows together for what is a fantastic cause and he is involved in the first wheelchair boxing match against Paddy Barnes in Galway on September 11th," said Foran.

"Then we are excited to see what's going to happen when McGregor gets on the scene later in the year and this fight against me. How did I get into this!

"I have to be honest, I'm scared. I have a pacemaker, I have a plate in my arm, so I don't know where I stand in this contest against Conor, but we will have a great laugh with it all.

"The build-up to the fight will be funny and I'd love to do a press conference in his new place The Black Forge in Dublin as I would answer every question with a different impression.

"It should be a great craic and hopefully people will get to see a different side of McGregor when he gets involved with this event.

"We want to have some fun with it and if I land one or two shots and last longer than Jose Aldo did against him, that will be an achievement.

"I'm planning to get into training. I want be in the best shape possible and as I'm getting married next year, there is a double reason why I need to lose a few pounds.

"It might always be a one pack for me rather than a six pack, but I can at least make it look like a decent one pack!"

Foran is relieved to be preparing to performing live once more, after the pandemic brought the entertainment industry to a standstill overnight.

"It was very tough at the start of Covid and the uncertainty has been hard to deal with," he added.
