Giovanni Pernice has said “there was absolutely no wrongdoing” as he spoke out about his recent split from Maura Higgins.

The 31-year-old Strictly Come Dancing star, and the former Love Island contestant Maura (30) are said to have parted ways after four months together.

After denying reports he was using a dating and networking app before his rumoured split with Maura, Giovanni has now taken to social media to say sometimes “great relationships with great people can come to a natural end”.

“Hey guys - I hope everyone had a great Monday,” he posted on Instagram.

“Going into another wonderful training week - thank you so much for your amazing messages and your support this weekend.

“I get to live my dream every single day because of you - so thank you, thank you, thank you. I wanted to say a couple of things...

“Firstly, great relationships with great people can come to a natural end. This has been the case for me recently. There was absolutely no wrong-doing and this should be the end of any speculation.

“Whilst I respect and understand interest in my personal life, wouldn't it be fantastic to instead use this space to raise awareness of subjects and issues which need the attention.

“My eyes have been opened to so many things during my career. But I am learning so much from this series of Strictly.

“The show has highlighted many important conversations for different communities and increased representation.

“These are the conversations which deserve the time, energy and recognition. We must concentrate on what's important and how we can all make a difference in life. Gio x.”

It follows claims that Giovanni was active on celebrity dating app Raya as late as October 5, before news emerged of his split from the Irish TV star.

But a representative for the dancer told MailOnline that was not the case. “Giovanni became member of Raya years ago and his original profile remained on the site. He categorically was not using Raya whilst in a relationship,” they said.

The Longford star had caused a stir when she removed almost all of the photos of Giovanni from her Instagram page, fuelling rumours that the couple had split up.

Maura has been keeping busy and recently moved into her new apartment, sharing a video with her 3.3 million Instagram followers. “New place is finally coming together - I totally forgot how stressful moving is,” she said in the post.

Last week, the Love Island star showed off her bold new ‘statement fringe’ in a post.

She debuted the new do on a night out at a London event for pal Molly-Mae Hague's Beauty Works Christmas launch on Thursday night.

Maura showed off her new look as she rocked up in a corset blazer dress from Maniere De Voir that featured a plunging neckline and black knee-high boots.

Sporting gold rings on her fingers, she also added a Louis Vuitton clutch as an accessory, but it was the new hairdo that stood out.
