Daisy Edgar-Jones is overjoyed after receiving a BAFTA nomination for her role in Normal People.

The 22-year-old was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Marianne Sheridan in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel while co-star Paul Mescal was nominated in the Best Actor category for his role as Connell Waldron

The drama series scooped up seven nominations in total.

The British actor took to Instagram to share her excitement and posted a photo of her and Mescal filming the BBC show.

She wrote: “Oh my goodness I can’t believe it!!!! Thank you so much @bafta I’m so proud of our show and this special team of people.

“7 BAFTA noms?!! There aren’t enough words to describe how lucky I feel to have met and worked with you all.

“Sally Rooney puts it best I think in the final chapter for what you all and this story has done for me...”

Daisy then shared a passage from the last chapter of Normal People, which reads: “He brought her goodness like a gift and now it belongs to her. Meanwhile his life opens out before him in all directions at once. They’ve done a lot of good for each other. Really, she thinks, really. People can really change on another.

“You should go, she says, I’ll always be here. You know that.”

Alongside Daisy and Paul’s Best Actor/Actress nominations, Normal People was also listed in the editing, sound, and photography and lighting categories for a fictional show, as well as a nomination each for best miniseries and best director.

The show’s director, Irishman Lenny Abrahamson, tweeted yesterday: “Lovely news this morning. Congratulations to all our brilliant cast and crew.”
