Hollywood actor Ben Affleck went viral as he pursued a woman on Instagram after she had turned him down on celebrity dating app Raya.

Nivine Jay posted a TikTok video about the experience with the caption: "Thinking of the time I matched with Ben Affleck on Raya and thought it was fake so I unmatched him and he sent me a video on Instagram."

The Oscar winner was seen in an Instagram video speaking directly to camera, attempting to confirm his identity as he asks the woman: "Nivine, why did you unmatch me? It's me."

Raya is often described as the celebrity version of Tinder, as the dating app requires a membership and a vetting process, which is enticing to big movie stars like Affleck.

The app - which launched in 2015 - describes itself as being "an exclusive dating and networking platform for people in creative industries."

Ben is just the latest star who's either gone public about their experiences of being on dating apps, or have been exposed for using them.

Not only did Stone join Bumble, the 63-year-old Basic Instinct star got banned from it.

Other users reported Stone's account, thinking it was fake.

"Hey @bumble, is being me exclusionary?" Stone asked the online app, which matches those looking for romance based on location.

Bumble say they have now unblocked the mum-of-three's account so she can get "back to Bumbling".

Reports last July claimed that the Normal People actor had turned to Raya to find love after the success of his show made it difficult to meet new people.

Since then, however, the 25-year old Kildare man has been linked with American singer Phoebe Bridgers, who first reached out to him on Instagram.

He was also linked with his housemate India Mullen and had a platonic drink with married actress Margot Robbie.

If you grew up idolising Zac Efron thanks to his role in the three High School Musical films, then you may want to download Tinder.

The actor says he has been known to log on to the dating app. But he hasn't had much luck. "Amazingly, when I signed up for Tinder, nobody swiped me!' the 33-year-old said in 2016. "They thought [the profile] was fake."

SAM SMITH

"No offence to people who go on Tinder, but I just feel like it's ruining romance, I really do," Smith (29) said in 2014. "We're losing the art of conversation and being able to go and speak to people, and you're swiping people."

But Sam, who does not want to identify himself as either male or female and now wants to be known as 'they', says they're opposed to all dating apps. Smith shared that he got kicked off the dating app Hinge almost immediately. "They chucked me off of it after one night cause they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me,"they said.

REBEL WILSON

Before meeting ex Jacob Busch, the Hustle actress said she had tried out Raya. "I've been on it a few years, but I'm only active for a week or two," she said. "When you're seeing somebody, you're not on it. It's only for the times in between when you're very much single. And just looking for who's out there. But I think it's a really good tool and a lot of the Pitch Perfect girls are on it, and a lot of my girlfriends in the industry are on it."

DREW BARRYMORE

The talk show host and actress declared in 2020 that she wasn't looking for love. But Drew (46), who has been divorced three times, might have changed her mind.

"I got back on a dating app during Bridgerton," the mum-of-two admitted. "I was like, 'I'm not dead! I'm not dead!' For me, that was a big step."
