Jess Redden has said that she is “incredibly blessed” to have had the chance to move to Perth with fiancé Rob Kearney but is looking forward to seeing her friends and family back home.

The 27-year-old flew over to Australia in January with her rugby star beau after he ended his 15-year career with Leinster Rugby to sign with Australian rugby union side Western Force.

The couple got engaged in 2019 with a romantic New York proposal and were hoping to get married in June 2021 before the pandemic hit.

But while Rob is set to stay in Perth for a bit longer, Jess is preparing to return home in May to finish her pharmacy degree.

In a Q&A session with her Instagram followers, she spoke about how excited she is to see her friends and family at home but confessed that she feels nervous about coming back to a Level 5 lockdown.

The Dundrum native shared: “I have been so incredibly blessed that I was able to defer my course and take a leap of faith and just come over here! But I have to get back to finish my degree so the 4-week countdown is on.

“I’ve never known time to go so quickly but I’m looking forward to seeing my family and friends – home will always be home.

“Does lockdown life scare me? Will I miss the weather, lifestyle & people? Will I be able to hold onto the attributes I’ve gained since moving here? These are questions I’m finding I’m asking myself now that the end is near but a wise man once told me ‘que sera, sera.’

“I’m in control of those factors and I’ll try my best to stay positive about my fears and worries.”

The pharmacist-in-training also revealed that her lifestyle in Perth has allowed her to grow emotionally as she has found new ways to relax and enjoy herself.

Jess wrote: “I’ve gained 4kg since arriving so far. I feel the healthiest I have felt in a long long time, at the start it was a struggle to change my mindset and behaviour from always ‘go, go, go’ to waking up and just listening to podcasts or reading instead of racing to an exercise class!

“My diet has done a 360. I’m eating much more carbs & fats than ever before, much bigger portion sizes, lots of snacking & alcohol also playing a role so it’s a combo of various factors – my body just needed this break!

“I’ve grown physically of course but my biggest growth has been emotionally,” she added.
