While many Americans have been emphasising the ‘a’ in her name, it is in fact the ‘o’ that is emphasised.
"Have I been pronouncing your name wrong my entire life? I thought it was LoHAAAN," one person commented on her post.
Another added: "Wait. Lindsey 'LOWEN'?!? I'VE BEEN SAYING IT WRONG MY WHOLE LIFE?!?"
One user even apologised for their lifelong mistake: "I’m sorry I've said your name wrong my entire life."
The actress has Irish ancestry on both sides of her family - which is not a surprise given her famous auburn locks.
Lindsay’s father Michael Lohan, who was reportedly born in Galway, has both Irish and Italian ancestry.
Meanwhile, her mother Dina was born to Ann and John L. Sullivan, the latter of whom was born to an Irish catholic family in Co Cork.
The surname Lohan, which originated in Co Westmeath is a Celtic name which means ‘good light’.
It is derived from the Gaelic name “O’Leoghain.”
