Love lockdown Kim Kardashian 'sad but relieved' marriage to Kanye West is over
It is understood that Kanye's bipolar and mental health battle will not affect the couple's joint custody arrangement.
Kim Kardashian is said to be “sad but relieved” over her divorce from Kanye West and is ready to “finally move on”.
After months of rumours the two are due to legally separate, with the reality show star filing for divorce from the rapper after almost seven years of marriage.
It has also been reported that Kim (40) and Kanye’s (43) divorce came together quickly as they both “basically wanted the same thing”.
It is understood that Kanye's bipolar and mental health battle will not affect the couple's joint custody arrangement.
Over the summer, Kim addressed Kanye's mental health in a lengthy statement and asked fans for compassion, calling the singer a “brilliant but complicated person”.
“She's worried about sending him into another tailspin, because that's not good for anyone, especially the kids,” a source said.
“So she's being as gentle and kind as she can be, while still standing up for what she feels she needs to stand up for."
The source added that both Kim and Kanye want “nothing but the best” for their four children who will reportedly stay with Kim while the rapper will be able to visit whenever he chooses.
Another source told TMZ that Kim “totally trusts Kanye with their kids” and that there has always been a "safety net" in place.
They described the rapper as a “great dad” and that despite the majority of time spent with caretakers or family members, Kanye has enjoyed several trips with his children recently with “no additional assistance”.
According to a source for E! News, Kim is “definitely sad but she feels confident in her decision to divorce him, because she knows it's what's best for herself and her family.
“She's already felt like she's been divorced for months now. It's been a long time coming and she feels relieved to be able to finally move on."
A different source added to E! News: “Kim was just tired of waiting. She tried to give it a chance. She wanted to do this last year. She gave it plenty of time but it's just time to move on. There were no affairs. No one did anything bad. They grew apart.”

In 2018, a year after his diagnosis, Kanye revealed he was not taking medication for bipolar because it “stifles his creativity”.
News that it might be all over for the couple had started circulating after they argued during her 40th birthday party held at The Brando resort in Polynesia in October of last year.
But trouble had been brewing since last July when he decided to run for President of the United States and revealed that they considered aborting North before he got a “message from God”. He also called Kim's mother Kris Jenner “Kris Jong Un”.
In January 2021 Kim was seen on vacation with her sisters that she called a “girls trip” with no sign of Kanye.
However, a source told People Magazine on Friday that the rapper is now "resigned to reality" over the divorce filing, adding that “it is a sombre day for him”.
“It's as amicable as possible, but amicable doesn't mean joyful or ideal,” a source told the publication. “It just means that they're being adults about the whole thing.”
Kim and Kanye started dating in 2012, and became engaged in 2013. They were married in May 2014 in Italy after they had already welcomed their eldest daughter North.
This will be Kim's third divorce as she was wed to Damon Thomas from 2000 until 2004 and she was married to Kris Humphries from 2011 until 2013.
