Jess Redden has revealed that she will change her last name to Kearney after her winter wedding last weekend.

The pharmacist-in-training and fitness influencer married her longtime love, former Ireland rugby player Rob Kearney, at the Trump Hotel Doonbeg in Co. Clare on Friday.

The newlyweds are currently enjoying themselves on their honeymoon, and while Jess announced on her Instagram account that she would be “signing off for the week to just enjoy newly married life,” she answered some questions from fans beforehand.

When asked if she would be changing her last name to Kearney or turning her surname into a double barrel, the 28-year-old revealed that she had been inundated with similar questions.

She said: “Actually had lots of these Q’s which is interesting! In my opinion you just do whatever you want to do, don’t worry about other people’s opinion.

“I am changing it to Kearney – a good 10 years of spade work to get into the family so they’re not getting rid of me easily,” she joked.

Jess said that her beloved father Brian, who passed away at the age of 70 last September, was there with her in spirit as she walked down the aisle and offered her advice to any of her followers trying to plan their wedding after losing a loved one.

“It was the few weeks before I found really difficult,” she explained.

“Dad was my best friends and he would have absolutely loved our wedding. I truly believe he have me the strength and courage to make it through everything and I’m still smiling.

“The ripple effect is when all the attributes your parent had ripple through their children and loved ones so I felt him all around me all weekend.”

The new bride added that her dad’s eldest brother Pete Redden had the honour of walking her down the aisle, saying: “I was so nervous for this but once the doors opened and I saw Rob I was the happiest girl in the world.”
