Glenda Gilson has revealed that after nearly 14 years at Virgin Media, she has “decided that I will not be returning at the end of the month”.

The former model had been on maternity leave from her presenting job on Ireland AM.

Taking to Instagram, the TV star said she had “so many memories that will stay with me forever”.

“Some that will make me laugh, some will haunt me forever, and some will definitely fill my heart with such happiness,” she wrote, “especially when I think of the great people I met and worked with along the way.”

She added: “I'm certainly not turning my back on television or presenting. It's just time for new adventures right now.”

Fans and friends offered their best wishes to her on the news, with former Miss Ireland Holly Carpenter replying: “End of an era! Exciting things ahead I’m sure,” while presenter Darren Kennedy added: “Congrats G, onwards and upwards.”

Karen Koster said: “No one else like you Glenda, always bagged the best interviews and always got the best out of people. When you shine your light on someone, there’s nothing else like it. Here’s to the next adventure.”

And Courtney Smith declared: “Lucky me to make such an amazing friend through Xpose a million years ago. Going to work with you never felt like work. Excited to see what's next for you G... always a superstar.”

The 40-year-old has two children with husband Rob MacNaughton, Bobby, who was born in October 2018 and Danny, who was born last October.

Rob is originally from Kiltipper, Co Dublin, and his family own the McCormick MacNaughton diggers and cranes business.

The couple first met in Dublin club Lillie's Bordello and now live in a mansion in south Co Dublin.
