Comedian Dara Ó Briain has come out as the top choice celebrity Irish people would choose as their 'phone a friend' lifeline or on their quiz team.

The Wicklow personality was quite some way ahead at 31pc compared with President Michael D Higgins (18pc), TV star Graham Norton (11pc) and the acting chief medical officer Dr Ronan Glynn (9pc), according to a nationally representative survey of 1,065 people.

Meanwhile, Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae was at the bottom of the list (2pc) along with Eamon Dunphy (2pc), while presenter Kathryn Thomas (3pc) and controversial pundit Joe Brolly (3pc) also didn't make the cut as top quiz team choices.

RTÉ News presenter Bryan Dobson was also a less popular option at 4pc, according to the national poll for online lottery company Lottoland.

The company launching their new Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Daily & Instant Lotto game this week.

Potential

Despite Nphet's advice regarding the current restrictions applying to the capital, Dr Glynn is the 'go to' quiz team member pick for Dubliners, whilst Munster people went for President Higgins.

Leinster people have gone Dara Ó Briain, whilst Connacht/Ulster gave RTÉ's Dobson their number one vote.

Irish women seemed to prefer Michael D Higgins and Ryan Tubridy as potential quiz team members, whilst men favoured Dr Glynn and the barrister Brolly.

The over-65s gave Dr Glynn their biggest vote-of-quiz-confidence, whilst the youngest 18-24 group perhaps surprisingly went for TV and radio host Ryan Tubridy.

Lottoland Ireland said: "We all fancy ourselves as quiz buffs from time to time but there's always that one impossible question that you'd love to 'phone a friend' for."
