Conor McGregor's arch rival Dustin Poirier sneers as The Notorious returns to training
Attempting to body shame the champion fighter, Poirier slagged McGregor off during a YouTube video conversation with Michael Bisping
Conor McGregor’s arch rival Dustin Poirier has said that the 33-year-old Dubliner looks “a little puffy” after the athlete gained 35lbs following his break from the Octagon with an injury.
It comes as McGregor shared numerous pictures of himself on social media as he returned to training after breaking his leg during a match with Poirier in July.
Attempting to body shame the champion fighter, Poirier slagged McGregor off during a YouTube video conversation with Michael Bisping.
"I did see a picture. He does look a little puffy, man.”
“He might want to slow down on the Black Forge, whatever he's got going on,” he said in reference to the MMA star’s Crumlin Gastropub.
McGregor, who competed against Poirier in the lightweight division twice, broke his leg during the first round of UFC 264.
The break led the American to win the fight, his second win against the Dubliner following his stoppage win in January of this year.
McGregor returned to training ahead of his return to the UFC, declaring that his comeback will be the “greatest of all time.”
Sharing a video of his first time back on the pads he said: “What a buzz!
“I’ll be back, bitches! Back with a vengeance! Thank you to all my doctors and my team for getting me this far so soon after surgery!
"There is work to be done but doing work is what I’m known for. Strap yourselves in for the greatest comeback in sports history!”
Conor has won just one fight since he became a two-weight world champion in 2016, but with two fights left on his UFC contract, he is eager to win his next couple of matches.
McGregor is listed as one of the most talked about sports stars in 2021.
According to Onlinegambling.ca, the Dubliner ranked in the top 10 athletes discussed across the globe this year.
Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was the most talked about sports star this year after the Portuguese player returned to play with Manchester United after leaving the club in 2009.
Meanwhile, superstar players Neymar and Lionel Messi came in second and third place respectively.
The top three stars all had over 130,000 articles written about them.
NBA basketball player LeBron James followed in fourth place, while Indian cricket player Virat Kohli was in fifth.
The only other athlete to rank ahead of McGregor was NFL quarterback Tom Brady, who was the sixth most discussed sports star with 60,473 articles published about him.
The Crumlin native is never without controversy in the Irish media - between his bizarre Twitter rants, jibes at government ministers and comments about the Covid-19 pandemic - there has been no shortage of McGregor stories.
He recently hit headlines again and was dubbed the ‘Duke of Dublin 12’ as it was revealed that the Notorious is set to build up to 300 apartments plus two commercial units, one which will include a supermarket, and a public realm area in the area.
Just this month, the Sunday World exclusively revealed images of the architect's plans and pictures which show 188 apartments in a complex towering from three to nine floors on Davitt Road.
McGregor is set to fork out an estimated €100m to build 300 apartments, shops, cafés and a supermarket in three separate adjoining sites along the Grand Canal in Drimnagh.
As news of the Omicron strain of the Covid-19 virus emerged, McGregor launched an attack on the variant itself.
“Guys did you hear? We’ve to watch out for this Botswana yoke now,” he said in a tweet.
“It sounds serious,” he continued. “It’s not protected against our vaccines also. ‘Vaccine laughed at’ it said. Crazy! Chances of hitting the deck have now trebled again, so back in your box.”
“This Message directly from tony baloni,” he said, taking a swipe at HSE Chief Medical officer Dr Tony Holohan.
“Oh no! This Botswana is worse than the delta!” he said in a follow up tweet, adding: “But trust me when i say, IT’S F**K ALL TO THE ALPHA! Oh yes!”
