CONOR McGregor shows off his patriotic groin guard as he works out for a UFC comeback fight.

The MMA fighter posted on social media today a topless picture wearing the prominent protective guard in the Irish colours over his shorts while sporting matching boxing gloves.

“Light work,” remarked McGregor.

His posting was met mainly with favourable comments such as “champ”, “the king”, “legend” and “beast” and “animal”.

Others posted pictures of Irish flags, while several referenced his protective piece, with one person saying “nice cup”.

Others poked fun at him.

“Already exhausted champ?,” joked one, while someone else claimed “you look hungover” and another “looking gassed out”.

One female admirer said: “Nice view honey”, while another lady cheekily toyed “I am alone at home” and a mystery girl labelled him “saucy McGregor”.

A number of people also questioned why he’d post such an image.

“The state of you bro how’s you even see this of yourself and I think it’s idea to upload lol,” sneered one man, while someone else claimed “you can’t fight!".

McGregor had his first spar on Wednesday, since suffering a devastating leg break against Dustin Poirier last summer.

He has been training at Crumlin Boxing Club as in preparation for a return to the UFC later this year.

The 33-year-old former two-weight champion is set to return to action at welterweight in the summer and the Dubliner is hoping to become the first ever fighter to win titles at three different weights in the UFC.

“I’ve already won the 155lb title. I got myself down to a lightweight frame, but I’m big now. I feel strong, I feel healthy, I’ve got good energy. I’m coming back after a gruesome injury. I do not want to deplete myself, there should be no need to deplete myself,” he told MacLife.
