Two divers who disappeared while diving off the coast of Malaysia have been found alive.

British man Adrian Peter Chesters (46) and French woman Alexia Alexandra Molina (18) were found after they spent more than two days drifting at sea.

"Both individuals… are reported to be in stable condition," said Mersing district police chief Cyril Edward Nuing.

They were spotted by fishermen at around 1am on Friday, a considerable distance South from where they had vanished.

However, Chesters told police his 14-year-old son, Nathan, was "too weak" to survive after they were abandoned on Wednesday.

His body has not yet been recovered and Indonesian authorities have taken over the search.

"We believe there is a high likelihood that he is no longer in Malaysian waters based on the movement of sea currents, as well as the time and location where the other victims were found," Mr Nuing said.

Nathan, Chesters and Molina were among four people who went missing on Wednesday while on a training dive near Tokong Sanggol.

The group’s instructor Kristine Grodem, was rescued on Thursday.

She told officials that the group surfaced about an hour into their dive but could not find their boat. The group were training in hopes of obtaining advanced diving licences.

She was later separated from the group after being caught in strong currents.

Grodem was rescued by a tugboat and airlifted to hospital.

The boat operator, who took the group to the dive site, is being detained for further investigation after testing positive for having drugs in their system.
