Pink has offered to pay the fines given to the Norwegian women’s beach handball team after they refused to wear bikini bottoms at the European Beach Handball Championship.

The Disciplinary Committee of the European Handball Federation (EHF) fined the team €1,500 euros - €150 per player - for wearing “improper clothing” during their bronze medal game against Spain at the European Beach Handball Championship last Monday.

It added that the shorts were “not according to the Athlete Uniform Regulations defined in the IHF Beach Handball Rules of the Game.”

Tweeting on Saturday, three-time Grammy Award winner Pink said that she is proud of the Norway team for protesting the rules and offered to pay for their penalties.

The 41-year-old wrote: “I’m VERY proud of the Norwegian female beach handball team FOR PROTESTING THE VERY SEXIST RULES ABOUT THEIR “uniform”.

“The European handball federation SHOULD BE FINED FOR SEXISM. Good on ya, ladies. I’ll be happy to pay your fines for you. Keep it up,” she added.

The team thanked the singer and their supporters with an Instagram post, where they posed in their shorts.

“Thank you so much for the support. We really appreciate all the love we have received. You’re the best,” the players wrote.

In a statement, the Norwegian Handball Federation said: “We are very proud of these girls who during the European Championships raised their voices and announced that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

“We at NHF stand behind you and support you. Together we will continue to fight to change the rules for clothing, so that players can play in the clothes they are comfortable with,” it added.
