The devastated mother of the Texas school shooter has spoken of her bewilderment at his actions and asked for forgiveness.

Salvador Ramos’s mother Adriana Martinez was bereft as tearfully said she had no idea what he was thinking when he carried out the atrocity.

“I have no words. I have no words to say. I don't know what he was thinking.

“He had his reasons for doing what he did and please don't judge him,” she said, in an interview in Spanish with US news channel CNN.

Martinez’s own mother and Ramos’s grandmother Celia was his first victim.

He shot her before heading to Robb Elementary school to carry out the deadliest school shootings since Sandy Hook in 2012.

Nineteen young children and two teachers died in the attack in the town of Uvalade before Ramos was killed by law enforcement officers.

Fourth-grade teacher Eva Mireles, 44, was shot along with her fellow teacher, Irma Garcia and 19 primary school children.

Further tragedy followed when Garcia’s husband and childhood sweetheart, Joe, died of a heart attack two days after the shooting.
