A SPANISH bishop and exorcist who quit to start a new life with an author of erotic satanic novels, has got a new job with a pig artificial insemination firm.

Ultraconservative Xavier Novell, 52, announced in August he was stepping down from his post as Bishop of Solsona near Lleida in Catalonia for “strictly personal reasons.”

Last month it emerged his resignation was the result of him falling in love with Silvia Caballol, a divorced mother-of-two who writes Satanic-tinged erotic fiction.

Reports at the time said Novell, who became Spain’s youngest bishop at the age of 41 in 2010 and has carried out exorcisms as well as defending gay conversion therapy, was looking for a job in the Barcelona area as an agronomist.

But respected right-wing Spanish daily ABC reported yesterday/on Thursday the ex-bishop has found work with Semen Cardona.

The company, whose Spanish HQ is in Cardona near the Catalan capital, provides doses of semen for artificial insemination for swine.

It helps in genetically improving pig species to consolidate growth and increase productivity and quality of their meat.

The firm, which also has offices in Mexico and the Philippines, exports to 25 countries in Europe, America, Asia and Africa.

ABC, in a graphic description of Novell’s new role, said: “The former bishop will work masturbating the pigs that are at Semen Cardona’s HQ in Cardona in the province of Barcelona.”

Leading Spanish-language religious news website Religion Digital, which said it had independently confirmed ABC’s exclusive, described it as a “total life change", adding: “Xavier Novell has got a new job. And not just any new job but one with Semen Cardona, dedicated to the extraction of sperm from the best pigs in the region.

“It’s not a joke. Novell, an agricultural engineer, has been hired by the multinational.”

The job revelation follows close on the heels of Spanish reports last week Novell’s lover is expecting twins and they are about to tie the knot in a civil ceremony.

The wedding is expected to take place in Suria in the province of Barcelona where Caballol was born.

The couple have made no official comment and Semen Cardona declined to confirm or deny reports it had taken on the former bishop, saying that as a private firm data protection laws prevented it from offering any information on employees.

Novell was quoted as saying: “I’ve fallen in love and want to do the right thing” in his only comments on his decision to quit around the time his “personal reasons” for quitting as Bishop of Solsona became public.

He is believed to have met his partner, a trained psychologist who has studied sexology, yoga, Catholicism and Islam, after he began studying demonology.

Caballol's books include The Hell of Gabriel's Lust and the trilogy Amnesia.

The blurb for one promises readers a journey into sadism, madness and lust and a struggle between good and evil, God and Satan with a plot to shake one's values and religious beliefs.

Another, Gabriel’s Inferno, is billed as a “sinful exploration of sex, love and redemption, adding in publicity material: “Enigmatic and attractive, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure.

“He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption.”

Novell was seen as a rising star within Spain's Catholic church after being appointed as the country's youngest bishop.

He met several times with Vatican officials as well as the Pope himself.

His ascent within the church is said to have stalled because of Pope Francis’ more liberal views.

Novell described abortion and euthanasia as “genocide” before stepping down as Bishop of Solsona.

He was also outspoken in his support for Catalonian independence.
