SINGER and songwriter Joy Crookes has been bubbling under for the last few years - but 2021 saw her make her mark with a hit debut album, Skin.

Now topping our list of Ones To Watch in 2022, the Londoner of Irish and Bangladeshi heritage will be proudly flying the Irish flag when she headlines shows and festivals this year.

Joy tells Shuffle that her dad, David, is originally from Dublin's Navan Road, while her mum comes from Bang-ladesh.

The last time we met she'd been to Dublin's Glasnevin cemetery to visit her grandad's grave "with a bunch of flowers in one hand and a pint of Guinness in the other" because he had worked in Guinness.

She said: "I've been coming to Ireland since I was born and my dad always emphasised that 'you're Irish.'

"He has always made it his focus that all his children should understand their roots and grow up the same way that he did.

"And I agree with him, I think culture is very important."

Joy's debut album Skin went Top 5 in the UK and she had sold-out shows across Europe and the UK, including Dublin's Academy last November.

And here are some more artists to keep on eye on and check out this year:

He decided to take a risk leaving his schooling and moved back to Ireland - and it paid off when he was 'discovered' by Darkroom/Interscope Records (the team behind Billie Eilish) last summer.
