Wonder Woman has always been my favourite superhero.

The top five female superheroes.

1. WONDER WOMAN

From her star-spangled shorts, to her golden tiara and no-nonsense attitude, Wonder Woman has always been my favourite superhero. The moment Lynda Carter whipped out her Lasso of Truth in the 1975 television show and introduced me to the world of Diana Prince - I was hooked.

A symbol for the empowerment of women, she has been one of the most iconic characters over the years. Finally making her debut to the big screen in 2016 for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, instead of being sidelined by testosterone in capes, the Goddess of Truth played by Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot steals the show dressed in Gothic armour and wielding a sword.

She goes on to star in Wonder Woman in 2017, the first female superhero to get her own movie in either of the two shared universes from rivals DC and Marvel, breaking a superhero glass ceiling that should have been shattered long ago.

A natural born leader, Wonder Woman not only runs the world - but the universe as well.

2. BLACK WIDOW

IF there's one thing that can be said about Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, it's that the woman can kick ass and not even break a sweat.

Her character has evolved since her debut in Iron Man 2 back in 2010 when we first saw the lady in black as Natasha Romanoff.

The former black-clad Soviet spy defected to join S.H.I.E.L.D. before becoming a founder member of the Avengers. And now we get to see more of her backstory in her self-titled solo film which was released earlier this month.

While Black Widow is one of the only Avengers who lacks superpowers - no magical hammer or super-soldier serum - the former assassin is always in the thick of it with everyone else. A female superhero that is more than capable of defending herself.

3. CAPTAIN MARVEL

WITH superhuman strength, stamina, and the ability to fly faster than the speed of sound, Captain Marvel AKA Carol Danvers, portrayed by Brie Larson in the 2019 film, is not a woman you want to mess with.

Not only can she can shoot light beams from her hands and eyes, but she can predict future danger, so she's also pretty handy to have around.

She doesn't really have any specific weakness, but she is prone to losing control over her powers from time to time - aren't we all? So when she says, "I'm kind of done with you telling me what I can't do", you'd best be walking away.

4. SCARLET WITCH

Elizabeth Olsen's character Wanda Maximoff started off as a villain turned hero in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

As the daughter of Magneto, she becomes ridiculously powerful and can alter the reality of everybody in existence and then change it back without anybody being the wiser - not a bad party trick to have up your sleeve.

Following the finale of WandaVision we are left wondering, is Scarlet Witch going to end up being good or bad? Either way best not to make her angry.

5. OKOYE

AS the head of the Dora Milaje - Black Panther's mighty women warriors-Okoye may be one of Marvel's lesser-known heroes, but after we see Danai Gurira's performance it's pretty clear who's the boss.

She went toe-to-toe against the children of Thanos and lived, and helped save Wakanda after 'The Snap' in Avengers: Infinity War wiped out trillions, including Black Panther.

Trained from birth, her elite army of women are some of the best fighters in the world - but I'm pretty sure she could kill you stone dead with that lethal stare alone.
