Murder probe Woman stabbed to death in Derry named as Kathleen 'Katie' Brankin

A 53-year-old man remains in police custody after a 37-year-old woman was found dead at an outdoor accommodation site in the Limavady area of Derry on Monday evening.

Police have identified her as Kathleen ‘Katie’ Brankin.

The woman who was from the Newtownabbey area, was found stabbed to death at around at 8:20 on Monday evening.

She was found on the decking of her accommodation on the Seacoast Road and pronounced dead at the scene.

A 53-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Ms Brankin and according to the PSNI on Tuesday, continues to be questioned.

Police are also appealing to witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to come forward.

A PSNI spokeman said: “Anyone with information or who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area around that time of the murder is urged to contact the investigation team on 101 quoting reference 2211 of 12/07/21”

“Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous.”
