Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen shocked patrons after they turned up to famous County Down pub and restaurant for a meal.

The couple dropped by the Dirty Duck in Holywood yesterday for a bite of scampi and chips and even posed for a photo with the pub’s fluffy mascot before leaving.

The pub's management took to their Facebook page to post a pic of the famous couple, but it’s not clear why they were visiting Ulster.

Days previously they had posted a photo of themselves with their children in London ahead of England's big European championships game against Croatia.

On Facebook, a spokesperson for the pub said: "No, this isn’t Photoshop, your eyes don’t deceive you - it is in fact former Man United player, Wayne Rooney and his lovely wife, Coleen in our restaurant!

"The pair called in for a tasty bite to eat this afternoon and were lovely enough to pose for a photo with our famous fluffy duck.

"Hope you enjoyed your meal guys!"

The pub spokesperson revealed the pair had a "bar board to share and then our scampi and beef chilli."

It's thought the Rooneys could have been staying in the nearby luxury Culloden Hotel.

Meanwhile, fans of the Dirty Duck took to the pub's Facebook post in their droves.

One posted: "Awk and we were blissfully unaware as we scoffed our scampi and wine a couple of tables over... I was super excited for that scampi though!"

Another customer said: "Frank Lampard was there with Christine. Maybe he recommended it."
