PSNI Punch-up PSNI officer appears to punch man in the face while restraining him in Tyrone

Two men were charged with assault on police officers after the incident


The PSNI are investigating footage which has emerged appearing to show an officer punching a person.

The incident was recorded by an onlooker and circulated on social media.

It’s understood the incident happened in The Moy area of County Tyrone at the weekend.

In the footage, a man who appears to be a police officer is seen restraining a man on the ground.

The officer, who appears to be holding the man by the neck, then appears to strike the man with a punch to the head, and while the altercation ensues, a woman tries to intervene before she falls to the ground.

Several people are heard shouting in the video as they look on.

Local councillor Denise Mullen said she has received complaints from the public regarding the incident and has called for a “full investigation”.

The PSNI have confirmed they are aware of the footage and while they have not received any complaints, “the material has been referred to the Professional Standards Department”.

The confirmed two men aged 28 and 34 were charged with assault on police and disorderly behaviour following the incident.

They will appear at Dungannon Magistrate’s Court on December 17.
