No injuries PSNI investigation underway as Belfast residents evacuated during fire

Two properties adjacent to the fire were evacuated during the blaze

The PSNI are investigating after a fire at a property in south Belfast.

Just before 10.15pm a fire was reported at the property in the University Street area.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service was tasked to the scene and two adjacent properties were evacuated while the fire was brought under control.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Detective Sergeant Gardiner said: "The cause of the fire is under investigation, and I'm appealing to anyone who was in the area just prior to when the fire was reported, and who saw or heard anything suspicious, to call us on 101 and quote reference number 2041 of 04/08/21.

“The road between Botanic and Wellesley Avenue was closed but has since re-opened.”
