The PSNI have appealed for information after a pedestrian died after being struck by a car in County Down.

The incident happened last night in the Ballydugan Road in the Down Retail Park area of Downpatrick at around 8.30pm.

Emergency services were tasked to attend the incident but the man died at the scene.

The Ballydugan Road was closed for a time but has since reopened.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Enquires are continuing and the Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage or any other information to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1946 27/10/21.”

Colin McGrath, SDLP MLA for South Down, said yesterday: "So sad to hear this devastating news from Downpatrick tonight.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased tonight. Thinking of all involved."
