A man in his 70s has been attacked by a gang wielding iron bars in his own home.

The attack happened in Larne in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

Police received a report at around 1am that a number of men entered the house in the Drumahoe Gardens area of the town and attacked the man with metal bars.

The victim said the men who attacked him were wearing face masks.

He has received medical treatment for his injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

During the attack, the gang also smashed windows of the man’s house and damaged his car.

A PSNI spokesperson said: ‘We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have witnessed any suspicious activity, to contact 101 quoting reference number 91 of 02/07/21.’
