Quad tragedy Man killed in Co Antrim quad crash named as well-known vet Wilson Kennedy

A man who was killed in Co Antrim in a collision involving a car and a quad has been named by the PSNI as Wilson Kennedy from Ballyclare. 

Mr Kennedy, who was 69 years old, was a well-known local veterinary surgeon.

He was killed when a black Seat Ibiza collided with what police described as a “farm cart/quad-type vehicle” in the Irish Hill Road area that was reported to police shortly after 8pm last night.

Inspector Buchanan said: "Sadly, Mr Kennedy, who was driving the farm cart/quad-type vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene."

Police said that a female passenger travelling in the Seat Ibiza was taken to hospital following the collision.

“The 26-year-old driver of the Seat Ibiza was arrested on suspicion of offences in relation to the collision and he has since been released on bail pending further enquiries,” the PSNI added.

The Irish Hill Road was closed for a time, but it has since re-opened.

In an earlier statement, police confirmed "that a man has died following a serious two vehicle road traffic collision in the Irish Hill Road area of Ballyclare yesterday evening (Friday 21st May).

Inspector Buchanan said: “Shortly after 8pm, it was reported that a black Seat Ibiza and a farm quad type vehicle were involved in the incident. Sadly, the man passed away at the scene. A female was also taken to hospital following the incident.

“The Irish Hill Road remains closed at the junctions with the Lisglass Road and the Rushvale Road.

Inspector Buchanan added: "As our enquiries into this collision continues, I am appealing to anyone who witnessed what occurred, or who may have dashcam footage or any other information to contact us on 101 quoting reference 1835 of 21/05/21.”
