A man has been injured after a shot was fired through the window of a house in the County Down town of Banbridge.

The incident happened last night shortly after 8pm.

The police said the incident happened in the Railway Street area of the town.

Two men and a woman were in the house when the attack happened, with one man in his 20s receiving minor head wounds.

The police said a man wearing black clothing and a balaclava, carrying what appeared to be a shotgun, was spotted in the area at the time.

It was reported the man made off in the direction of the junction at Reilly Street and Huntley Road.

Detective Sergeant Stewart said: “This was a contemptible and calculated attack, with the most serious potential consequences. Worryingly, anyone from the residents to potential passers-by, could have been killed.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, or has any information which could assist us with our enquiries, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1992 of 22/09/21.”
